David Shear was born on April 3,1951, in Montreal, Canada. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree (economics major) from McGill University in Montreal in 1972. He attended the Masters in Business Administration program at McGill University from 1972 through 1973. He obtained his Bachelor of Civil Law degree magna cum laude, from the University of Montreal in 1976 and was admitted to the Bar of the Province of Quebec in 1977. He also graduated from Nova University Law School in Fort Lauderdale, with a J.D. degree in 1980, and was admitted to the Florida Bar in August1980.

Mr. Shear moved to South Florida in 1978 from Montreal, Canada, and worked as in-house counsel for a real estate development partnership until 1980. Upon becoming admitted to the Florida Bar in 1980, he joined the real estate department of Broad and Cassel in their Miami office. Mr. Shear became a partner in Broad and Cassel in 1985 and the head of their real estate department in the Miami office in 1988. He became a partner in Fieldstone Lester & Shear in June 1993.

He serves as a partner of Landmark Residential, which company has served as the sponsor and manager of approximately 13,000 multi-family units in the states of Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Texas and North Carolina, as well as a co-venturer with Paramount Companies of Florida of approximately 6,000 condominium units in the states of Florida, Georgia and South Carolina.

Mr. Shear is a member of the Real Property, Probate and Trust Law Section and the Land Use and Environmental Law Section of the Florida Bar and is an active member of a committee of 16 attorneys who specialize in representing condominium developers. He practices real estate and banking law representing developers, contractors, foreign investors and lenders. Mr. Shear is fluent in French and speaks Hebrew.

Mr. Shear has been active in various civic and charitable organizations, including currently serving as President of Grovenor House Condominium Association, Inc., past President of the Shul of Bal Harbour and past activities in the Builder’s Association of South Florida.
